Hi i was just wondering if some people could answer some questions for me?

1. How long have you had your allotment?
2. What first encouraged you to get an allotment?
3. What do you like to grow on your allotment?
4. Do you have any tips for beginner growers?

Thanks for your time. x

1. Just over a year.

2. Got tired of not having enough space, and only being able to grow some of the things I want to every year. And the encouragement of the rest of the guys at http://www.downsizer.net really helped.

3. All sorts of things; I love carrots straight out of the ground, scorzonera, parsnips, peas, beans, Jerusalem artichokes, peppers, chillis, tomatoes, sweetcorn, new potatoes... I could go on all day :)

4. Grow what you want to eat, rather than just what is easy. Be patient, wait till conditions are clement to sow seeds (the packet might say march, but if its cold and wet out then the packet is wrong). Don't be put off by a few things going wrong.

1) This is our third year of having an allotment.
2) It is my partner's really - I think it was a combination of having grown up on a farm and his parents having grown various things for both the cattle and the kitchen and a desire to do something outdoors at the weekends.
3) All sorts, we rarely buy veg at the supermarket any more. Potatoes, carrots, peas, sweetcorn, beans, brassicas of all kinds, squashes, tomatos, chillis.... We try lots of different things.
4) Don't underestimate the amount of time it will take. All the prep work takes a long time and you'll need a fair amount of free time for watering/weeding/cropping etc.
